^ A BEHIND THE SCENES LOOK OF THE FIRST DAY OF FILMING. I FELT AS IF I DIDN’T APPEAR DIRTY, SCRUFFY ENOUGH SO I APPLIED SOME BLACK EYE SHADOW ON MY FACE WHERE FACIAL HAIR WOULD BE. THIS ACTUALLY GAVE THE ILLUSION THAT I HAD MORE FACIAL HAIR, WHICH WAS CONVENIENT FOR THE CHARACTER.

^ WE WAS TRYING TO SEE IF THIS WAS A GOOD PLACE TO FILM EMILY WALKING TO THE SUBWAY. THE LIGHTING WAS BAD SO IN THE END, WE SAID WE WOULD HAVE A JUMP CUT FROM HER LEAVING THE GARAGES, TO HER WALKING INTO THE SUBWAY.

^ VIOLENT SCENES IN NARUTO

^ THIS IS A SHORT FILM THAT I WATCHED ABOUT VIOLENCE AND IN PARTICULAR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. IT WASN’T THE BEST SHORT FILM BUT IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE MALE PARTNER WAS THE VICTIM AND THE FEMALE PARTNER WAS THE VIOLENT ABUSER. I WATCHED TO ASK MY SELF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VIOLENCE. HOW DID IT HAPPEN? WHAT VIOLENT METHOD WAS USED? WHAT WAS THE AFTERMATH? AS AN AUDIENCE MEMBER, I CAN SEE THAT SHE WAS HOLDING HER EMOTIONS IN AND AS HER BOYFRIEND KEPT SPEAKING, SHE EVENTUALLY BLASTED OUT INTO A VIOLENT OUTBURST. THIS WILL BE WHY RAK TRIES TO KILL EMILY. HE’S BEEN BOTTLING ALL HIS EMOTIONS IN FOR SOME TIME (FROM THE DEATH OF HIS PARENTS, TO HIS ON GOING LOVE) AND WHEN HE REALISES EMILY DOESN’T LOVE HIM, HE GOES BIZZARE.

^THE BBFC SUGGESTS THAT THERE SHOULD BE NO EMPHASIS ON INJURIES OR BLOOD. IN TERMS OF BLOOD, WE ARE ONLY GOING TO SHOW EMILY’S NOSE BLEEDING. THIS IS PERFECTLY SUITABLE FOR A 12 AUDIENCE AS THEY WILL UNDERSTAND THAT A NOSE BLEED IS A NATURAL THING. IT IS SOMETHING THEY ARE FAMILIARISED WITH. IN TERMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE, THE BBFC IMPLY THAT SCENES OF RAPE CAN ONLY BE BRIEFLY OR DISCREETLY INDICATED. OUR IDEA IS SUITABLE FOR THIS CRITERIA SO THERE IS NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT.

^I ACTUALLY SEARCHED STRANGLING SCENES AND CAME ACROSS THIS FILM JENNIFER LOPEZ STARS IN. I THOUGHT THE STRANGLING SCENES WAS DONE IN SUCH AN ABSTRACT MANNER. THE MUSIC WAS NOT EXTREMELY LOUD, DETRACTING FROM WHAT ACTUALLY WENT ON. THERE WERE A LOT OF CUTS WHICH CREATED A DISORIENTATED EFFECT. MANY OF THE CUTS WERE TO FLASHBACKS AND WHAT LOPEZ’S CHARACTER COULD SEE. PERHAPS WE MIGHT HAVE A POINT OF VIEW SHOT OF EMILY LOOKING AT THE JOGGER RUNNING, AS EMILY IS BEING STRANGLED

^ THIS IS AN ARTICLE THAT I FOUND ABOUT A RAPE CASE. I WANTED TO GET A REALISTIC PERSPECTIVE FROM A REAL LIFE RAPE CASE AND PERHAPS INCORPORATE ELEMENTS OF IT TO THE RAPE SCENE. THE BITS I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED ARE CONCEPTS I’M GOING TO INCLUDE IN MY FILM. THE RAPIST ASKS THE POOR WOMAN IF HE COULD USE HER PHONE CHARGER. I FEEL AS IF EVERY RAPIST HAS A BAIT WHICH WILL ALLOW THEM TO CAPTURE THEIR VICTIM. IT’S QUITE ANIMALISTIC AND PREDATOR LIKE. THE VICTIM IS SAID TO BE OF BEEN TRUSTING OF STRANGERS AND PERHAPS SHE WAS AN OPPORTUNIST. THIS NAIVETY IS SOMETHING I’M DEFINITELY GOING TO INCORPORATE IN THE FILM. RAK IS SOMEONE EMILY HAS BARELY SPOKEN TO, YET SHE FEELS THE NEED TO OPEN UP TO IN SOME SENSE A COMPLETE STRANGER.

THIS MAN ALSO APPEARS TO BE DOMINANT AND WANTING TO BE IN CONTROL, BUT IT’S AS IF HE WANTS TO HAVE A FANTASY OF HIS OWN. HE DOESN’T WANT TO HEAR THE CRIES OF THE WOMAN. THE ARTICLE ALSO SUGGESTS HE WAS QUITE AGGRESSIVE. RAK TOO WILL BE AGGRESSIVE, THROUGH SOME OF HIS SPEECH AND ALSO THE ATTEMPTED MURDER

^ THE BBFC CLAIMS THAT SEX CAN BE BRIEFLY AND DISCREETLY PORTRAYED AT 12A OR 12. THIS CRITERIA FITS PERFECTLY INTO OUR FILM AS WE ARE JUST GOING TO INSINUATE TO THE AUDIENCE THAT EMILY HAS BEEN RAPED. THERE WILL BE NO CRUDE REFERENCES. IN TERMS OF NUDITY, WE ARE THINKING OF SHOWNING RAK PUTTING HIS TROUSERS ON OR HIS ZUP UP. THIS IS AN EXREMELY DISCREET CASE OF NUDITY.

^ THIS IS A SHORT FILM THAT I FOUND ABOUT RAPE. IT BEGINS WITH A PRESENT SCENARIO IN WHICH THE RAPE VICTIM’S MOTHER IS LOOKING AT A PHOTOGRAPH OF HER DAUGHTER. IT THEN CUTS TO A FLASHBACK WHICH TOLD THE EVENTS PRIOR TO THE RAPE. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE EDITING WAS THAT THERE WERE A LOT OF CUTS WHICH MADE IT DISORIENTATED AND MADE IT APPEAR EVEN MORE LIKE A RAPE. IT WAS TENSE AND MADE ME FEEL SLIGHTY UNEASY, WHICH MUST OF BEEN THE INTNENTION FOR THE AUDIENCE.

^ I HAD TO RESEARCH SOME INFORMATION ON COCAINE. I FOUND SEVERAL FACTS ONLINE. IN THIS BOX IT SUGGESTS ALL THE ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF USING COCAINE. I THINK WE WILL STICK TO THE SNORTED METHOD AS IT IS WILL BE THE MOST EASIEST TO FILM AND ALSO AS EMILY HAS NOT TAKEN DRUGS BEFORE, SHE WILL NOT KNOW OF ALL THE ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF TAKING COCAINE.

^ WE ARE THINKING OF GIVING OUR FILM A 12 CERTIFICATE SO IT WAS ONLY OBLIGATORY TO CHECK THE BBFC WEBSITE AND SEE WHAT THEY MENTION IN THEIR 12 CERTIFICATION GUIDELINES. IT SAYS THAT SCENES OF DRUG MISUSE CAN BE BRIEFLY SHOWN BUT IT SHOULD NOT GLAMORISE IT OR PROVIDE IN STEP BY STEP METHODS OF TAKING IT, WHICH A YOUNG TEENAGE AUDIENCE MAY IMITATE. WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT GLAMORISING THE MISUSE OF DRUGS. EVEN TO THE AUDIENCE, THEY WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS THE ANTAGONIST’S METHOD OF CAPTURING THE PROTAGONIST, SIMILARLY TO A VILLAIN POSING AS A PRINCE ONLY TO CAPTURE THE PRINCESS. A 12 AUDIENCE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE DRUG MISUSE WILL BE SHOWN AND HOW IT LEADS TO A DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCE. BY TAKING BAIT, EMILY ENDS UP BEING RAPED AND ON THE VERGE OF DEATH. IT DOES NOT SHOWCASE A PLEASANT LIFESTYLE WHERE ALL HER PROBLEMS ARE RID OFF. IN A WAY IT ANTI-GLAMORISES DRUGS BY SHOWCASING THE HURDLES A TEENAGER MAY FACE BY TAKING DRUGS.

WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING A STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION INTO TAKING THE DRUGS. THE SCENE WILL BE VERY TENSE AND WE WILL MOST LIKELY BE ADDING A LOT OF EFFECTS AND TRANSITIONS TO CREATE A DISORIENTATED EFFECT. SECONDLY, THE AUDIENCE WILL UNDERSTAND THAT OUR DRUG IS FICTIONAL AND ONLY REMINISCENT OF COCAINE. WE ALSO DO NOT WANT OUR FILM TO BE 12 A FOR PERSONAL REASONS. WE BELIEVE THAT DESPITE OUR FILM NOT INCLUDING STRONG LANGUAGE OR GORE, CHILDREN BELOW THE AGE OF 12 SHOULD BE NOT ABLE TO WATCH IT (I’M SPEAKING AS IF WE’RE MAKING AN OFFICIAL BRITISH LOW BUDGET FILM WHICH IS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN CINEMA LOOL).  ANYWAY THIS FILM IS MAINLY A MYSTERY AND IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RECEPTION OF THE AUDIENCE, THEIR READING OF THE FILM. PEOPLE AGED 12 AND ABOVE ARE SOON LIKELY TO DEAL WITH ISSUES SUCH AS BEING PEER PRESSURED INTO SMOKING ETC… THIS FILM WILL BE INFORMATIVE T A TEENAGE AUDIENCE AND ABOVE.

^THIS IS A DRUG SCENE FROM THE FILM ‘AMERICAN PSYCHO’. CHRISTIAN BALE’S CHARACTER AND HIS FRIEND MOST SNORT COCAINE. THEY SNORT IN THE TOILETS, WHICH IS QUITE A SMALL SECLUDED AREA. THIS IS SIMILAR TO OUR LOCATION OF THE SUBWAY TUNNEL. BOTH ARE GOOD LOCATION CHOICES FOR A DRUG SCENE BECAUSE IT MAKES THE AUDIENCE FEEL AS IF THEY ARE LIKE THE CHARACTERS. THE AUDIENCE WILL FEEL TENSE AND TRAPPED ALMOST. THE SECOND CHARACTER APPEARS TO BE QUITE AGGRESSIVE. FOR OUR AFTERMATH OF THE DRUG TAKING PART, WE ARE THINKING OF HAVING EMILY HALLUCINATING.

I WAS ASSIGNED WITH THE TASK OF COMPLETING THE SCRIPT. I THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO DEEP DIVE INTO THE CHARACTERS AND HOPEFULLY CREATE A SCRIPT THAT IS REALISTIC, INTRIGUING AND NOT CLICHÉ. BELOW IS A ROUGH SCRIPT DRAFT THAT I DONE IN CLASS BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS. IT BEGINS WITH THE DEFINITION OF REDEMPTION AND THEN GOES ONTO THE CONVERSATION BETWEEN EMILY AND HER MOTHER.

WE THOUGHT THE MOTHER CALLING EMILY A “BITCH” WOULD BE A BIT TOO EXTREME OF HER CHARACTER. IT WAS VERY INTERESTING GOING INTO THE MINDS OF THE CHARACTER AND TRYING TO WRITE FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE. IT WAS SLIGHTLY TRICKY WRITING DIALOGUE FOR EMILY AS I DID NOT WANT HER TO APPEAR AS A TYPICAL DAMSEL IN DISTRESS BUT I STILL WANTED TO PORTRAY HER VULNERABILITY THROUGH HER SPEECH.
