^This is an interview with the director of the film. Hardwicke explains how she wanted to create a mystery within the film and let the audience question who the antagonist truly is. She claims the film does have a ‘whodoneit?’ mystery. She also explains how she wanted to deviate from the original tale which people are so familiarised with and actually explore the dark roots which people find so intriguing.
^ This is a review of the film I found online. Linking back to what Hardwicke says in the interview, the main character is crucial as they have to draw the audience in and they obviously are required to have a resemblance to the fairy tale character. I also agree that the script was cliché. The narrative was unpredictable and exciting but the script was just too familiar and boring. I have to write a script that is engaging, refreshing, but realistic as well.
